2011 Kahoona 9m upgrade guidance please - Evo 9m worth the cost?

Hi all,
Since 2011 I have been using my 7.5m(V1) / 9.5m(V3) / 11.5m(V2) Kahoona's.
Really like the 9.5m(V3) Kahoona.
They are still in great condition even though on water more last 2 years so getting better.
BUT redline bar & lines looking tired, so need to upgrade as starting to jump higher.

Can I just buy / use the 2016 North 4 line bar with the Kahoona's?

Also thinking of buying a 2016 North Evo 9m when price drops the 25% when 2017 comes out around November. Would I be happy with the 2016 Evo to advance my level further on, or will it still be much the same as my Kahoona's?

I am improving but never going to do much in the way of new freestyle tricks, more your old school type tricks eventually with more riding around in waves and typical Worthing-Goring Green type chop. But some flattish days at times when low tide.

So basically I am more Freeride I guess / Jumps (load&pop directing kite behind / forward for landing getting better!) starting to go higher so YES feel I need to get new bar&lines as mine now 5yrs old with most use in last 2-3yrs.

Keen to move over to costly! North brand kit as their 4 line quick release very reliable.
Don't think I want to go Rebel route as don't like 5th line type safety set up.
Plus I guess Evo, over Rebel, more suited to Worthing-Goring Green type waves / chop.

Thanks in advance for any help / advise / guidance you can give me.
Cheers, Allan

I have heard the 2015 Evo inflate valve is of poor design and has needed replacing by owners at times.
The 2016 Evo has a new design inflate valve which is supposed to be much better.

Any thoughts / guidance on my other questions etc.... Cheers.

If the lines on north bar are equal length you should be able to use it. Or any best red line bar after 2011 as that's when they stopped swapping line lengths every few years

Best latest bar quick release does not always release due to poor design, so not keen to go Best route.

Any thoughts / guidance on my other questions etc from others reading this thread will be most appreciated.... Cheers.

Focusing on the bar. No. The North bar won't be plug and play with your Kahoonas (unless you buy the £600 clickbar) as North use a high Y split point. It will work to an extent but you will most likely see a reduced wind range (worse low end and reduced sheeting range). Secondly, the last 3 years North bars have moved to single front line flagging and the Best Kahoona up to 2015(?) was dual front line flagging. Its likely to work but you may find that when you punch the quick release your kite goes into a spiral rather than flagging neatly. Doh!

In terms of the release, the new Best bars have licensed the North Ironheart (hooray) but are now single line flagging (boo) which brings you back to the problem of fool proof safety releases. I don't know the Best range that well so I don't know if you can alter the bar to dual line flag.

In general, single line flagging is more reliable and better, however, the North reps have said that one of the reasons they waited so long to introduce it was that they struggled to get a 100% reliable release. They said that 4 line North kites back to 2012 had been tested fine to work with a single line release (they were sold as dual release until 2015) and that some earlier kites but not all may also work. Extrapolate to the Best brand and chances are your v3 will flag fine but your V1 kahoonas might not.

Sorry and all but you may need to weigh up the safety options. If money was no option right now I'd put my name down for and Ocean rodeo shift bar, if I wanted a new cheaper option then the Switch Controller (bar) is the cheapest I can think of that is dual front line release.

The North Evos are really nice. I think you will be really stoked to ride them. Sounds like a nice upgrade. The 9m is often their magic size (the one they spend most time getting just right).
