Re: Leaaky board

Fin boxes can hold a bit of water, but not a massive amount. If you're concerned, take the fins out and check for any damage in or around the fin boxes. If you've got a lot of deck pad that can also hold a bit, especially if it's lifted off a bit at the edges somewhere, as will straps if you're usin...

Re: Wetsuit?????

Lol - shows how personal taste goes. I swear by rip curl but wouldn't touch ION with a barge pole. Now's definitely the time to get a bargain on a winter suit though :-) I had a mystic majestic 5/4 which was pretty good except for some durability problems around the shoulder seams which were totally...

Re: Shinn Monk Lover - Size Advice Pls

I'd go for the 41 wide unless you've got really small feet (size 7 or less) it'll give you a bit more at the bottom end, and you shouldn't have any trouble holding it down at the top end either. FWIW I'm 70kg (size 8) and have been riding an original Monk 40 wide on the S coast as my only twin tip f...

Re: 7m "C" kites

cheers guys, I'm swaying towards the torch. Probably looking at a 2012/13, any recommendations ? The reviews of the razor say it goes big but drops you really fast ? Same as John B said - all smaller kites will drop you faster than a bigger one. They'll also shoot you up quicker too ( I read some d...

Re: 9m or 10m dice

I'm about the same weight as you and ride on the S Coast...I was in a similar position as you a while back moving from a quiver of Evo's to Vegas'. I had a 7 Vegas, 9 Evo and 12 Evo. I bought a 10m Vegas thinking it would be more of a direct replacement for the 9 Evo but found that I was too often o...

I didn't realize he broke his hand punching the ground after the crash! I think he would have broken his hand if he had punched himself in the nuts too....Handlepassing at 20ft+ above 6 inches of water - balls of steel.

Re: New to surfboard

I ride with one very loose front strap and no back strap. You don't actually miss the back strap at all unless jumping, and just tucking your toes under the front is enough to stop you foot bouncing out in the rough stuff. In clean conditions you don't need any straps at all, but We almost never see...

Re: Foot Straps

I found the same with my Monk. To be honest, I've always had issues with foot straps in general so I guess I must have awkward feet! I really got on with the Raptor straps and have worn them for a couple of years now. They do come off in a serious wipeout and give all the confidence to go for it wit...

Re: Brands, Bars & Line Lengths, which can fly with which.

Do all bars have the same Knot / Loop combinations? I know it's relatively simple to make pigtails, but it'll still stop bars from being instantly compatible if they vary.
For starters:
North have Knots on rear lines and loops on fronts.

Re: shinn gintronic v red? (Replacing 136 trax)

Thanks, The Red 135 might be the one to go for. Trying to get my random assortment of twinys, skimboards n surfboards thinned out down to one general purpose twin plus something strapless (with small fins due to there being lots of sandbars where I kite). Possibly a Shinnster. No chance to demo, I ...

Re: High wind kite

How much use you'll get out of a 5 depends on whether you're a dedicated twin tip rider or if you ride (or intend to ride) a surfboard. I took the plunge and bought a 5m last year and don't regret it for a second. I use it as soon as it hits a steady 25 on a surf board, and on my twin tip I've had i...

Re: the poo moment

How does a downloop differ to a backloop when dropping down from a jump? Simples - with a down loop you're looping the kite in the opposite direction to a back loop. So instead of initiating the loop by pulling with your back hand, you pull with your front, so you continue with the same forward tra...

Re: the poo moment

All good advice above :-) The key at the top of your jump is to make sure you don't overtake the kite. With practice you'll be able to feel this in the bar, but at first just keep an eye on it and make small adjustments to the steering and bar trim. Keep knees up while you're in the air as this will...
