Update - The pro event didn't happen, should have started earlier cos wind got more gusty as tide came up the beach, ali and ned were going well up till then, nailing some nice tricks.
I'm told the wind is gonna go a bit more sw tomorrow, so should be slightly better, it will be an early start to ensure enough time before the tide gets too high

If you're sat in car par, come and say hello, grey chevy van is me, currently sat in my duds with the heater on as I got a bit wet!

Hi!!

Right i have just had my son announce to me he would like to do the junior comp tomorrow!.. just to have a go with no pressure

I have couple of questions..

1. is it too late for him to decide as he has not been registered? or can he register tomorrow.. he has BKSA membership so no worries there...

2. We dont have a helmet for him.. does anyone have one he could borrow..?? He cant compete if he doesnt have one :(

Thanks
Beth

BKSA Freestyle Round 5 Bridlington 2009

Date - 4th-6th September
Location - South Beach, Bridlington
Event Sponsors- East Riding Council
Tour Sponsors- Deadman Kitesurfing, Redbull, Buff, King of Watersports

Prize Fund- £1500
Discipline - Freestyle

Friday

The day started with an overcast sky and bang offshore winds, Richard Boughton was first out with a test run on his 9metre. Shortly afterwards a few other riders took to the water

The race crew got ready for a 1pm start – however the heavens opened and the wind got gustier – a vote was taken and it was decided to wait until Saturday

A great evening was had by all with the Red Bull BBQ and then onto to Shelley’s Bar for Karaoke – standout performances by Richard Findall and the OAP’s , Sam Light and Helen Thompsons rendition of “Gangsters Paradise” and James Bouldings duet!

Saturday

The rest of the competitors registered and a rider briefing was made at 9.30 am under a sunny sky.

Competition began at 11am – Heats were drawn as normal however due to the extreme offshore conditions riders were given 2 mins to bust there 3 best tricks with their best 2 counting in each heat. There were some great moves throughout the day – a great respect for all the riders competing in winds gusting from 20 – 30 knots – all rounds of Am Men, Am ladies, seniors and juniors were run.

As the day went on the wind swung slightly more side shore and it looked like with the Pros would be lucky to run a normal comp – the first Ladies heats were run however were both black flagged as the wind backed off and went back offshore .

The Pros then all went out in Mens and then Ladies for a best Trick competition in front of a large gathered crowd. They had 10 mins to bust all their moves – It was Ali Barratt with a Back to Wrapped and Holly Kennedy with a stunning F16 who bagged themselves each £100.

Saturday started with a Buffet at Shelleys Bar and ended in the bright lights of Bridlington

Sunday

Sunday dawned windless and a riders briefing was done at 10.30 am with just the Pros to run

Riders were put on standby with a cut off of 1pm

However the wind started to kick in at 12.30 pm with Marcus Hawkins taking to the water with a sideoff wind

It was decided to start the Pros – most were on 12’s and 14,s which was unusal for this season

However there was some great riding in particular from Holly Kennedy , Ned Taylor and Martyn Hogg , However it was tour leaders Hannah Whiteley and Sam Light who stomped the majority of there landings in the gusty winds to take the wins in both the Ladies and Mens fleets

Prizegiving was done at 5pm with a lot of happy and tired riders
