BKSA Round 6 Littlehampton 2008

Date – 26th-28th September 2008

Location – East Beach, Littlehampton

Prizefund - £1500

Hosted by – East Beach Café and Airhead Academy

Event Sponsors – Arun District Council, Littlehampton Town Council,

Tour Sponsors – Buff, Deadman Kitesurfing, RedBull

The British Kitesurfing Association returned to East Beach for the fourth year in a row as round 6 of the National Championships came to Sussex

Friday started with 11 Pro Men and 3 Pro Ladies registering for the event –
The forecast was for 12 knots easterly – we were lucky enough for it to pick up and rise to 17 knots.

The competition was fierce in the first 4 heats with a shock in heat number 4 when Sam Light currently ranked 2nd on the tour did not make it through his heat – he would however get another chance in the next round.

The wind was a little light in the early rounds however competitors had 7 minutes to land as many ticks as possible with some of the riders landing some 10 combinations of Handle passes in the difficult conditions

Sam Light made it to the final along with tour leader Lewis Crathern – tour leader – last up was 35 year Martyn Hogg who rode extremely well in the semis to land a well deserved place in the final

In the ladies which was to run a best of 3 Hannah Whiteley took the win on the first heat with a great heat – Helen Thompson took the win in heat 2 fighting back with some powered moves –

However due to the large storms that had occurred during the summer a large number of rocks and mussel beds had appeared as the tide dropped so competition was halted until the tide was to come in. However an hour later the wind had dropped.

The men were left with a 1st equal with shared prize fund and points. The ladies were awarded results on their first heat giving Hannah Whiteley the win ahead of Helen Thompson and Nicky Rudd.

Saturday dawned with a great Beach forecast of Sunshine with no wind – and for once the weathermen got it spot on – The last breath of summer with Ice Creams, wakeboarding and some summer hanging on the beach – crazy weather for the end of September. There was no more competition for the other fleets as there was not a breath of wind

Prize giving was at 2pm on Sunday afternoon after which everyone made there way home looking forward to a nail biting final in Brighton a month away.

Thanks Craig and Pete!

It's a Canon 100-400 f4.5 - 5.6 L, along with a 24-70 f2.8 L for the last few. The 100-400 was on a 40D mounted on a monopod

Going to try and populate the BKSA gallery with a few more shots by the end of the week, will post on here when I make some progress

Can someone please explain the basis of the overall ladies result - how does a first place in heat one to hannah and a first place in heat two to helen equate to an overall first to hannah and second to helen?

No disrespect to hannah meant at all here, I just would have thought it would have been either first place to all girls as the three rounds weren't completed or a joint first to hannah and helen (on the basis of winning a round each)?

Seems the basis of the girls result is different to the guys here (shared first place)....confused!!!
