heard on the grapevine conditions were pretty darned good today, and first of three rounds was completed.

and apparently a splinter group made it up to thurso couple of days ago and scored overhead pits. the bastards.

great that the conditions and location are working out so well, really stoked for the guys as i'm sat down here in windless waveless west country.

Cross offshore and overhead and reeling today! Or so I gather from a phone call that's been dropping in and out of signal.

Today, Pasty 1st Place, Bennet 2nd, Sillsy 3rd. Seniors' didn't run, trouble getting out on the waves in the wind shadow of the town.

Glad they are getting good conditions weather looks 'interesting' up there for Saturday  Gutted not to be there but couldn't justify the gas and time, if the proposal is for a fall back one off event next year my vote is Tiree at least all winds are covered. Don't get me wrong I don't doubt Fraserburgh for quality but I couldn't see how it would stack up if the wind was SW, guess I will have to come and find out for myself one day. Here's to 2010 being windy at the right time :-D :-)

Good on ya Helen for flying the flag.

Hope the SW boys are enjoying the spot. If anyones got any photos any chance of posting them so I can get a look. Not home till wednesday.

Enjoy Saturday!!!!!!!!!

Moonman i traveled from Elgin today and took some ill post a link on here .
The guys who ride strapless boards are superb and i dont know if the judges take this into concideration whilst judging ?. One bloke kinda stuck out more than the rest blonde haired guy using a Cabrihna Nomad .

I spoke to Will and Pasty earlier today, they are having an awesome time up there and were frothing about the conditions today. That'll be Will with the long hair and Cabrinha Nomad kite. Pasty was one of the other strapless guys, he won today. The other chap I'm guessing was Richard Sills I think?

There is a photog up there with a very good set up and I lent the Cornish boys my camera with a good lens. By all accounts Pasty said he took a very good photo this morning, apparently, it is very arty and he had to lay down and everything to get it. :P

Be interesting to see what the final day brings whenever that will be, it's not a done deal yet!

I dont know George but i think he might have been the only rider using a Takoon and im sure he won his first heat but got knocked out later on .
Richard wiseman who i think is a local got 4th in the senior mens .
Was going to go through again today but dont think the wind is up to much but i will venture through the morn .

I have been fortunate enough to have been on the judging panel for both of the mens open rounds, strapless is of course taken into account but it's not the fact that they are riding strapless which gets them the points, it's the fact that riding strapless can lead to a more fluid surfy style, and that's where the points are gained. This event has been awesome to judge with the full spectrum of waveriding styles being represented from, the pure strapless surf style of Richard Sills to the full on powered unhooked style of a strapped Dave Ibbertson, in between these you have the fluidty of both Bennet, Pasty and Ellman-Brown (strappless) and Gent (strapped). So strapless only scores points if it results in better wave riding. And the blonde guy with the Nomad is of course the current defending mens open winner Will Bennet.
