Here we go, this is going to be a long one!

Here's the guff off the Fylde website
Safety fears lead to Power Kite ban

Power Kites are to be banned from Fylde beaches, foreshores and public open spaces to ensure the safety of visitors and residents.

The ban follows a recent incident involving a Power Kite line becoming tangled around a pedestrian.

In light of this incident, the use of Traction Kites, Power Kites, Sports Kites, Stunt Kites, Flying Lines, or any similar kite is not allowed on any beach, foreshore or public open space within the Borough of Fylde.

However, the use of single line kites will not be affected. The existing ban on the use of all wind powered vehicles such as Sand Yachts, Kite Buggies and Parakarts, is still in force.

Susan Fazackerley, Cabinet Member for Risk Management and Health and Safety, said: “We don’t want to be over bureaucratic and spoil a day out in Fylde. But we are acutely aware of the potential for tragic accidents on the beaches of the borough.

“This ban is in response to a recent incident and following an assessment of the risks involved, we feel that this is an appropriate measure to ensure the health and safety of everybody on the beaches. We have targeted the specific kites that could cause serious injury. The use of single line kites, popular with children, is still allowed in the borough.”

Cllr Fazackerley added: “The safety of residents and visitors is paramount. That’s why we will look at more detailed risk assessments to address the longer-term safety issues on beaches and foreshores of Fylde.”
Black Wednesday for sure!

My initial thoughts are..

1 set up a group to work it - done

2 contact BKSA - done

3 work through a proposal to submit to the council taking into account such things as leisure policy as mentioned by Richard

We need to make it watertight, again my initial thoughts are to affiliate SSBR with the BLCC, third party insurance required, prefer BKSA membership only, need to be member of BLCC plus additional cost for rahie.
Good signs, estricted areas i.e. in fornt of red brick wall ect

Gotta go now, feel free to contribute!

Mike Shaw has now also offered legal advice and help at any meetings that are coming up, so withRichard and Mike on our side I am sure we will have the best possible representation available.

if /when we get the meeting , do we :-

A / hit them with an action plan of blcc bla and rashies ,

B / see where we get to first , sniff out the womens/plaintiffs intentions on claims (if any ) and try to find out tthe LA intensions on the ban , if we dig a big enough hole we'll hang on the noose ...

tony has created a secret area , that can only be seen on the index page by certain chosen members ...when you log in

concerning matters on the ban , people from FBC , IT team may now be viewing our forum ???

so its an area we can discuss things that go on during the ban ,with stealth

paul mc asked me on thurs if we had a website ,so hes on the case i told him we had a chat forum on the blcc website, so he will hit a blank .

but i know he will follow the ssbr webpage ,which links to kiteboarder ,

which is ok they will see the large community threat , if it is sensible ??

today as the hours drew on enjoying the beach and sun with my son and seeing the lagoons form and then empty with wind ,i was very very frustrated , and with the number of people that grew, that i explained the actions of the council to them i found it harder to justify to them and myself ...

and being brought up as a christian (its easter)and pascifist  ,and havin a few beers i am finding it hard not to freakin lose it and just ride north of the sea wall up to the glitterball , and just give fbc the middle finger when on the sea then go and land on bbc (blackpool borough council), plus i know where the toyota beach patrol vehicle is parked everynight

all windows smashed and four slashed tyres would put david hasslehoff out of commission for a while ????

 no worries I'll keep my cool for now

i agree with the lot chaps but few thoughts to mull over
why bksa membership - surely any insurance....which leads to the arguement of including the more powerful pksa(?) = stronger lobbying party - also on this front carl pennington is waiting in the wings so naturally he w ill have the land s ide in his interests - hes done all the dealing with turds over at ainsdale before having enough of the inhouse biatching - by all acounts hes in it for the sport - had few phone calls previously and he sounds like a guy who wants to help - i will phone him as / if time required to get him on board for advice.....
the above was mentioned by alex other day and i gotta agree - if we are trying to get fbc to open the beach up are we wanting just kitesurfing interests or the whole hog....bearing in mind they were looking possibly a head this year to opening up the beach again once thecivil court case is settled out of court as i was told
think bigger picture thing stronger case ???

rash vests compulsory 3rd paty insurance are a must
other issue is permit scheme like ainsdale run - it sucks imho but ive always said id do elt if it means beach opens

admin tasks like permit membership etc i would happily take on board

tony i have a parcel from dave at 540 sports kite repair think he said?

also i emailed alex brief witness statement - i really want to know the precise wording of the ladies complaint - 1/2 issues are cropping up as to the accuracy of her complaint.

im backing up the young lad if ever we trace him - he was not negligent imho - he was unlucky and misread t he squall situation - he showed compassion and was upset.......his actions were impeccable and im confident he will show up asap he realises about the matter

happy easter guys - sounds kinda hollow

Morning fellow banned geezers!

I'm in newquay again, so limited www access for a while
If you need anything on here and I ain't around call me!
If you ain't got my number it's 07834452180

I'm doing some kiteboarder stuff with Sean this week, so when we're doing the T-shirt stuff, I'll check out rashies too

I'll take a look at the SSBR website when I get chance, it needs updating though, looking a bit shite, it's still on http://www.southshoreboardriders.co.uk, but I think http://www.ssbr.co.uk is easier!

Cheers for collecting the kite Mart'

Sefton Council

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Mart,

I had a chat to Dave McAleavy today who is the head of Sefton Coast and Countryside. He said he would be very willing to talk to you about how Sefton has 'sorted' out us kiters over the years and who he has been working with very closley to succeed in making Ainsdale very kite friendly.

He has also been in touch with his counterparts up at Blackpool and is advising them on possible steps forward.

He can be contacted on - 0151 934 2967

Good luck in your efforts - I do hope you are successful.

All

spoke to Tony last night and came up with idea of a silent protest.
If no action appears to be happening say 1 month from the ban ie. 1st May then we should hold a silent protest on the beach.
Get as many people together down at starr gate or st annes.
On bank holiday Monday it is a 9mtr tide at 2.30pm.

Pump as many kites up as possible (no lines)
this will give a visual impression of how many kiters there are that use the area and how many people it is affecting.
