I STICK TO THE KITE ZONE BUT THERE WAS NEVER ANY SIGH TO SAY WHY WE WERE CHASED AWAY FROM THE HARBOUR. I ASKED THE BEACH PATROL GUY WHY WE COULD NOT USE THE BEACH BUT ALL HE SAID WAS IT IS CLOSED TO KITING.

Why do you have to write in capital letters? Grow up and act like a man, not like a little boy whose toys have been thrown out of the pram!

This sucks so much I'm a local kiter at Camber and I think that they should let us use the whole beach in winter because it hardly ever gets busy down by the cafe this time of year.... its a nice place down there, you can sail down there at high tide rather than trash your kit at Jurys Gap because of the groins and stones....

anyone whos a local kiter there agree with me?

Hey ASBO, i'm a local kiter, and I totally agree. I think the council have way over stepped the mark here, threatening to ban us (which im not entirely convinved they have the authority to do) and quarantining us all to the car park stretch (kite zone!) of camber? It's extemely unfair on us kitesurfers this time of year (winter) especially. I can understand the councils point, as at the height of summer, it is potentially dangerous to have scores of kites launching and landing (as it does get busy down there!!) on the busy cafe end of the bay. But this is what really grinds my gears:

1. The allocated kite zone which spans the jurys gap car park, is the most hazardous area they could of confined kiters to. Groynes and shipwrecks etc..

2. The whole point of kiters being restricted to the kite zone, is in the interest of safety to the general public using the beach. At the height of summer this year there were hundreds of beach goers using the beach within the kite zone. To my anger, I watched children, parents and pets playing on the beach, oblivious to kiters launching/landing/setting-up etc. This I fear is just another ticking time bomb, that will result in an accident and an excuse for the council to attempt to ban kiters at camber full stop. My main gripe here is that the council made it abundantly clear we were not to use the cafe end of the beach, making us aware of the dangers we pose to the public, but since they have designated a specific kite zone, why have they not equally gone to the effort of raising awareness amongst the public to the dangers they face when they are in the kite zone?

3. Winter time. The beach is practically empty!!!! From Jurys gap right round the bay to the cafe. There are even fewer kiters this time of year too, and with the limited hours of day light and having to rely on the tide being low (to avoid the groynes scattered all the way along the kite zone!) the chances to kite down there in day light become limited. Using the whole bay during the winter months I feel is not an unfair request and perfectly reasonable. Allowing much more space and flexablilty to kitesurfers, without posing any additional danger to the public.

I feel that if we could get a petition signed by a substantial number of kiters who use camber, and have someone with a certain amount of authority or social standing amongst the kiting community (i.e. a BKSA representative) present our case to the council, they may see our plight is not too audacious.

Please reply if you use camber and would be willing to sign a petition for kiters to use the full stretch of the beach during the winter season.

Brad
