Foil Boards

Shoot the breeze and stay in the loop with the unhinged and unhooked word on the street.

I think that many of the foils themselves are incredible shapes. When I took delivery of my Spotz 2, I decided to see if I could show the inherent beauty in the curves and contours. Using a mixture of soft daylight and one or two flash guns, I spent some time producing these images getting 'product shots' and then using one of the flash heads to create shadows from the carbon loveliness!

Please accept that I have watermarked them heavily to prevent unauthorised usage, not because I have a big ego. I don't!

My first venture out on a modern foil board today...
very different to the last board I had in 2002.
Bloody damn fast!

a prototype one....
will be at the Armada this weekend coming.
It's close to production, but it's been 2 years+ in the making...

Yesterday was very interesting. I used to have a foil board in 2002, but this thing was like a lightning bolt compared to that, and it took me at least an hour to get my head round it, and after that figured;
a - I was totally overpowered trying to use a 12 in 8 knots
b - trying to use any other muscle than your brain gets you nowhere
c - it's possible to get you wetsuit pushed up past your knee and elbow
d - the thing can stay foiling and run you over even when you have you have escaped over the front.

after an hour I could get a sustained but tentative run of about a km...
using about 1% of the power of the kite. In the swell, sometimes the angle of the wave was enough to sustain the thing.

now thats just bragging mike ! - you were running a K on your first go? I was doing little more than leaking water from all orifices for the first 3 sessions. It still occasionally tries to kill me for no apparent reason. The whole thing managed to land on my head from a great hight on Sunday - still no idea what happened.
One of the joys is riding impossibly slow shallow swells - it just picks you up and your proper surfing no wind required. I have managed a few wide arc bottom turns to topside then back in a big S- I usually repeat until I run out of talent and it tries to kill me again! Cant wait to be able to handle steeper sections.

I have actually started to go cross eyed with concentration -literally so much so that I need to close my eyes and ride jedi style to force myself to relax - very very cerebral.
Have you cracked a gybe yet? I can get round and then have to touch down to change my feet

Apparently Cabrinha foil is delayed availability until April 2016. Lots of disgruntled folk on Kite Forum.

Go Thierry!

Well done to F-One for working on this development. As Thierry is showing, the riding can be done. The trickier part may just be getting the engineering sorted to rotate the foil.

As can be seen from his previous videos, he rides hard and jumps. This will be a lot easier on his spine, and will open up kitefoiling for sit-kiters.

It's not the first sit-foiling, but it looks like it will open up the sport to those who have to sit.

Heads up to the Moses Silente riders, we now have the new 560 Freerace front wings and matching 330 rear wings in stock. I'll put a set on my board and let you know how I go on. Dan :P
