Could be interesting if they have good winds when the kiting begins next month.
Luderitz isn't the only record attempt next month Alex and Rob are already down in the south of France waiting for wind on there own private trench.
Having seen Rob in action a few weeks ago if he gets some wind he will be in the running for sure, the mans a machine like no other speed sailor I have met an div met most of the best

First day of runs for the kites at Luderitz today, already the German record has been broken, good start to the event for the kites. I think a load of windsurfing records have been broken over the last few weeks out there too.

Apparently Catman reached 50knots in 30/35 knots of wind.
Funilly enough there is not that much wind in france at the moment too.

So both of salt and speed and Luderitz are waiting for strong wind to break a record...

Good day to test both the Ocean Rodeo Prodigy 9.5m bottom end and the light wind speed board from Mike Pacey. Forecast was for 20knots gusting 26 but the actual wind was just enough at 13 knots gusting 18. I was worried with the Prodigy size of 9.5m, last Sunday I had this kite out in 30 gusting 40. Two lads were out on 11m Hadlows just keeping ground but the wind was due to pick up within an hour. The Prodigy is on demo courtousy of Richard the UK importer and I only picked up the board last week.
There’s been a lot of speculation on just how much faster than the wind you can go with a kite and board, of course a lot of it is down to the kit and today the combination of kit worked. So peak speed today was just over 36 knots, that’s with a wind history during the session of 13 gusting 18 proving that you can with the right kit and a good angle to the wind DOUBLE the wind speed.
So a fantastic light wind board designed by Mike Pacey “I have a tweak to make to the foot positions and it will be more efficient” and an astounding wind range from Ocean Rodeo, I am just over 11 stone and used the 9.5m from 13 knots to gusting 40 knots.
The new board has caused two small issues, first one being depth of water needed with the Tuttle box fins and one of the fins sliced through a 4mm suit and scratched and bruised my thigh, need to think a bit quicker.

After a 38 Knot wipeout yesterday resulting in delayed whiplash, stretched muscles and a ripped apart impact vest I feel the need to recommend the use of impact vests for anyone thinking of speed riding, I'm not sure how much the vest absorbed but it could have hurt more with just 4mm of neoprene i'm sure. I was back to back testing some Ocean Rodeo kites, I don't want to fill General chat with kite pimping but if anyone is interested in my thoughts they are here http://oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4134/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Does anyone know if the mondial du vent is the also the world speed championships this year? I saw a promo vid that seems to suggest a speed event and the IKA site confirms it as a freestyle world championships but I can't find a listing for a world championships on the IKA site, France would be good again :-D

Epic open sea speed session yesterday in 31 t0 47 knots, just under 40 knots peak, bruised foot, suspected 3 broken fingers but hey I survived. If interested I did a write up for the 7m Ocean Rodeo Prodigy here http://oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4268/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sorry guys but not much point listing these on the general for sale section.
Pair of speed boards for sale, made by a well known UK board builder who made board for the UK champ for years who did quite well on them. These are based on the Xcelerator speed board shape from ply and, core cell and epoxy, all foot straps and pads are included and 2 fins. Selling due to less and less time on the water, too many boards and a dodgy knee that might force me off the water soon. Both boards for £250 "roughly the same as a decent used twin tip" pictures available.

Hi
I'm thinking of a new TT for medium to strong winds to get some respectable speeds - to use with 12-13m kite.
I have speed board but this needs a lot of wind to shift my fat ass!

Current gear below.
114Kg stuck around the 30kt mark on the Crazy fly. I have yet to try some smaller fins on it.

Can anyone recommend a production board suited to speed?
Many thanks

Thanks James, I have a speed board for high wind, I'm after a production TT board suited to speed in powered up 13m weather.
All I read about are boards for freestyle, flex, soaking up chop blah blah
I want a board that'll go fast!

There isn't such a board. twin tips are designed for normal riders bumbling around and tricking, to go fast you need a board that has completely different characteristics and i havent found any twintip thats good for going fast.
I light winds try a race/slalom board on small fins its one hell of a rush once they are over 30 knots
