Hi all,

I'm aware that the membership is all changing at the moment, and that it will now be an annual thing every April. I've been on the waiting list for nearly a year, and wondered if I've missed the cut again....

I think i may have moved up the rankings by around five places. Surely you had more than five members drop out? Beginners, movers away, injurds etc. At this rate, should be a member by 2015. See you all then.......

Current Membership Update for HKA

At the last AGM we capped membership at 500 and given our membership was 530 at the time, we immediately closed the club to new members and implemented a waiting list. At the same AGM it was also agreed that we would change the membership period for all members to run from 1st April to 31st March annually. We also introduced the requirement for a member to maintain a 'continous membership' - i.e. they could not lapse for the Winter and expect to renew automatically in the Summer. This is to ensure that members do not 'hold open' one of the 500 membership places for when they feel like joining again thereby denying this place to someone on the waiting list.

We have just implemented this new membership period, cancelling all current memberships at the end of last month and forcing renewals from 1st April. All previous members have until 22nd April (unless an extension has been agreed separately) to renew their HKA membership. After 22nd April, those who have not renewed will be prevented from renewing without first joining the waiting list and waiting their turn.

It does mean that we should have a better idea of the membership numbers after 22nd April. If have less than 500 members, we will open the waiting list to those next in the queue. If we have all 500 places renewed, the club becomes 1 in 1 out.

As of today, of the 532 riders who were previous members, 275 have renewed. I'm unlikely to respond to discussion on this forum on this topic as it is essentially a private club matter for the members of the HKA however I felt anyone reading this who is on our waiting list should have the benefit of an explanation. The summary is though, we have a small (private) beach which is extremely popular and we had to take measures to reduce congestion and maintain safety - it could be a long wait.

Finally, for any rider who is not receiving emails from the HKA there are 4 possible reasons (none of them are me ignoring you unless you send ranting mails in which case you'll be ignored):

1. You are not a current member,
2. You have set your profile to opt out of receiving HKA emails (you can amend your profile by following the link in your membership certificate email),
3. Mails from @hka.org.uk are being treated as spam – please add this domain to your safe senders’ list.
4. You have changed your email address and not updated your HKA profile with the new address.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll hang on then!

I understand that it's a little local beach, but I'm little and local and have been windsurfing there for 13 years. It's just frustrating to have to drive somewhere else if I want to put the kite up.....

I've got a quick question that I don't think has been answered. Sorry if it has and I've missed it. I was just wondering what happens with someone who paid up for a year 3 months ago and doesn't renew now. Will their membership lapse now or run it's course for the remaining 9 months? If it does lapse now, will they get a refund for the 9 months they couldn't use?

It shouldn't affect me as I'm planning to renew. (I thought I'd wait for the mess with the renewals to be sorted out first.)

The waiting is over. If you want to kite at the new spot (there is wind today!) you can. The sign posts are in but the signs are not on them yet. Please stick to the marked zone.

!DEMO DAY!

:-)

This weekend - July the 9th - 10th - at the New HKA beach on Hayling. Forecast is 16mph when I looked just now, tides are low tide (perfect) both days...

I'll be there with a van chock full of demo gear from Juice, Airush, Shinn... heres a list of some of the gear we will have;

Sector 60 V1
Sector 52 V2
Airush Team FS 130
Airush FS 135
Airush Switch 135
Airsuh Xover 135
Airush Protoy 135
Airush Chopton 5'3"
Airush Compact 5'6"
Airush Quad 5'10"
Airush Vapor X - 7-12m
Airush Lithium 12 - 8m
Airush Razor 9m

Shinn Luigi II 130, 134
Shinn Gintronic 130 - 133
Shinn monk 130 x 40, 135 x 42
Shinn Duke 5'6"
Shinn Duke 6'

Juice Evolution, all sizes
Juice Widebody.

Saturday looks like a very good forecast, and sunday lighter, clear skies all weekend, but even if the wind was very light sunday then you have to try a sector - it will re-write what you think about kiting in light winds. Aside this its a good chance for you to come and try out what everyone has been harping on about re Vapor X and Shinn...

I'll have a go pro with me that I would like to lend out and make a vid of the two days to post up on the net, as well as getting some good shots.

all details of the New HKA beach (and associated details) is found on the HKA website - all are welcome - http://www.hka.org.uk come and join the fun :-)

:-D :-D :-D :-D

Thanks to HKA for the invite!!!

Are people actually having a laugh with this new Hayling kitesurfing Zone launch/land spot?!?!?!?

Its 1.5km tack to the sandbar?? why would anyone do that?! So you have to kite pretty much half of Hayling sea front to get any decent spot with low water and if the wind isnt onshore thats pretty much going to take all day.Plus that spot is full on chop, you may as well ride at Southsea or hillhead.

Rigging in front of the golf club car park next to CBK is the only way or between the last groyne and his flags. what a piss take.

Its also quite funny how so many people who slated Chris have now signed up :?

yep its a mile or so upwind, pretty easy 15 mins or so in prevailing W-SW, best if sandbar exposed or rising tide so not going against tide and wind. No hassle if you launch from new spot, loads of space and close to parking. Certainly a lot better than joining CBK, and supposed to be moved or additional spot created next to Inn on Beach from October for winter, so then its one or 2 tacks tops to sandbar :-)

Is the rumour of moving the kiteing area to Inn on the beach just that or is it going to happen?

I posted this on another thread but it seems even more appropriate on this thread:

"Whilst i agree with a lot of the previous points raised i wish that people would stop bashing having to pay or be a member at Hayling Island. It's a fantastic place to kitesurf, especially for learners and beginners with it's shallow lagoons and sand bank.

We may have to pay to kitesurf there but what everyone seems to neglect is that pays for a Beach Marshall, Carl does a fantastic job, helping you launch and land safely and keeping an eye on all the kitesurfers, a Rescue Boat incase you get into trouble or lose your board, ask anyone that's lost a board before is they'd pay to have a rescue boat on hand to find there board !! Free use of SUP's for non windy days, demo kit on the beach etc.. etc..

Chris and his team do a brilliant job, Membership is worth every singe penny !"

but you can't get membership.

I'm confused about the whole thing down there. I only ride about 15 miles ( by bird flight ) from there and I just don't see the point at the moment.
I understand it's got people there to help and it's all sounding good on paper. But I don't want to drive all the way round from Lee on Solent to fly in almost the same enviroment. I wouldn't mind trying it out.. but I was at the Public spot and well yes it is quite a distance to get there. Almost pointless really but I am sure it's all been planned out. Shame it's gone this way over there. Once was a great spot to well ............. we all know what shame.

Course you can get membership. You can do it online on the CBK website, or just call up CBK. Membership was previously closed under the HKA, but if you want to join CBK you can now do so. I'm a member, and its worth every penny and much more.
