Kitesurfing with a Garmin Fenix 3 HR

Shoot the breeze and stay in the loop with the unhinged and unhooked word on the street.

Hi All,

Looking at getting a Garmin Fenix 3 HR and was wondering how it may work with Kitesurfing for tracking distance, speed etc.

It appears the watch does a load of sports and you can add different sports on to do the same thing ie track speed and distance.

Just wondering really if anyone has used it for this yet?

Thanks

Haven't used the Garmin but I would recommend the Suunto, does everything and loads of sport modes. The HR is bluetooth and if it looses contact with the watch when your in the drink it stores the HR on the watch then syncs at the end. I use mine swimming all the time and it works perfectly.

I am not associated in any way but they have a sale on: http://www.suunto.com/en-GB/Products/sp ... t-Blue-Hr/

I have used a cheap Garmin Forerunner 10 for a couple of years.

when I bought it, it was the cheapest and most waterproof of all the Garmins. Doesn't do HR but does everything else you might need.

Here's what the data looks like after you upload it.

I've also got a forerunner 10. Adds another dimension to your sessions as you will almost always go a bit further for longer. Syncs to strava...

If it works without the hr monitor it'll be fine...as long as it's waterproof?

I use both a Suunto Ambit3 and a Garmin (735xt - similar to the Fenix 3) for kitesurfing. Both track speed/distance/maps etc well. The more robust the watch the better i've found, especially if worn over a wetsuit. The Suunto has the ability to create a video of where you have been, which is fascinating.

I just got a Fenix 3 this week, really pleased with it.
I use 'bike' mode for kiting as this records speed, timer and distance.
I haven't seen a specific kitesurfing profile to download yet, though you can set up a custom profile.
Impressed with synch and ease of use, though there are a million settings I won't use!

I'm fussy, but I'd buy this again without doubt.

I don't and I didn't say I did....the point of the HRM is for all the other sports that I do etc...being able to kite with the watch to track distance, speed, time etc is just one of the fucntions I was requiring about...I am not buying it specifically for kiting....

Nice one!
One tip for when you get it, download Garmin express on your pc and you will see links thru to the PDF manual.
Use this manual as the online one is a bit lacking in detail.
