Lightwind Kite Have you got one? Going to get one?

Shoot the breeze and stay in the loop with the unhinged and unhooked word on the street.

We drastically underestimated the demand for Turbines this summer just gone and absolutely blew out of 14s in Rallys and RPM's (we hardly ever sell 14 RPM's), I thought the era of light wind big kites was over and done with but clearly not, some of these new gen kites I'm told (the last big kite I used was the 22.5 Machine, blew me off my rails in 6 knots) perform kite well, not absolutely the same as breeze and the right size, but very acceptably in a better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick kind of fashion.

So what's your experience, got one? Going to get one? Don't even think about it these days until the dogs are extended horizontal on chains?

I have a 17m blade fat lady, Its a great kite and has been well used this year, in fact 30% of my sessions have been on it. I would be happy with a 3 kite quiver of 17, 11, 8, and that includes some overlap. I tried the first gen of the turbine and was under whelmed, but I hear the newer one is an improvement, although I am yet to see one, as most of the rpm crowd have Zephers.

My Lithium Zero is in post. If next Summer there will be as many warm under 10 knot days as there was this it will come come in handy.

Although the Turbine was a lot of fun, I just take my 12 Rally and Skim in 10 to 12 knots and as soon as it's 15 knots or so, I can use a TT.

Agreed but at what speed are you actually happily powered on your normal board?

biggest kite recently was 13/14m's so always had the 14 knot lower limit for fun and games.

just spent out on some new kites (edges) and in the quiver , got myself a zephyr, used it twice and its dropped my low end down to 10/11 knots on my tt ,so looking out for a skim to mess about with to enhance it further...thing is the zephyr in 13-15 knots is a blast ..its surprisingly fast for a 17m , nice and light on the bar and i can jump, rotate and blast about in these wind speeds...been told that it will hold upto low 20's but i have other kites to do that..

years ago i had a 20m co2... took hours to pump it up ! had 18's 16's and 15's also but last 4 years just decided on 14's as my biggest...until now that is....enjoying the zephyr

Epic infinity - used it out in Egypt this summer in average of 10knts on a tt - I was at points feeling over powered. Turns like a 12 and that's on a bar that is smaller than recommended. Im a convert and well sure it will get used loads more next summer. Only problem is pumping it - took a while with a compressor and Im unfit so will probably give me a heart attack..

Got a Zephyr about April and just had the best summers kiting, best money I have ever spent, yeah at 15 knots it boosts huge, and just a different experience to my Vegas kites. I even look forward to the forecast being about 12 knots so I can use it whereas previously I wouldn't bother in less than 15knots. My mate got a Dyno 15m same story great summer.

I'm a confirmed North Kite Flyer, but a distinct lack of Dyno reviews forced me to buy a different brand.
I eventually ended up with a Ozone Zephyr and its great.
My girlfriend and I share kites and this has been our most used kite this summer.
It will get her going in about 8-10 mph and me at 86KG at about 12mph.
At 14 Knots I'm unhooking , which is great as you can try new stuff without getting trashed.
I'd say its Medium bar pressure and slow to turn when in really light winds , but a lot quicker turning and lighter bar pressure when powered.
It'll also give you a lot of speed when powered.
The other really good thing is when the wind picks up you'll fly upwind and don't get dragged downwind like All of my old big kites.
I've had all sorts of big kites varying from 20m North Rhino,, 18mRRD , 13m Fuel, 14m RPM , 14m Vegas and can honestly say this is by far the best lightwind kite I've had.
Oh and one other thing, I was out on it the other day and the wind picked up to 24 Knots, no drama still going upwind and massive floaty jumps while others where out on 9m's.
The only downside was the Ozone bar which looked to have the same Plastic cup release system that my Globerider Sonic had years ago and that was shit, so I fly it on a North Quad bar with 24m lines.
Hope this info is useful to someone.
