Ride Engine harnesses - any problems?

Yep. Plenty of similar concepts out there (Brunotti, Da Kine). Worth trying a few on to find the one that fits best for YOU.

I like the smaller look of the 2017 RE though. I'm a fan of the lower profile harness.

I've had each incarnation of these since the hand made custom thermo moulded era, attracted by a lighter more simple, minimal harness for waves. I'd never go back to a soft harness. The rigid back of the harness spreads the load so well, you don't have to engage your core so much and are much more free to twist your body on the wave. I think some people miss the point a bit, and just see it as another sliding spreader set up, of which there are many!

The 2017 Elite is a better fit than the 2016 (for me) and is now as good as the custom, which is still in one piece four seasons on! It's more in line with the original concept Coleman had with it having a shallower back. The hard shell now comes further round your sides and distributes the load even further above your hips.

Of course there's a lot of bandwagon jumping from the other brands after seeing a new brand pinch some of the market share. It will be very interesting to see whether the ergonomics and closure are as good. Tightness and fit is absolutely key with these.

P.S I happen to have a 2016 Bamboo Elite (Size L 33-34") for sale:

I guess as I started this thread I should bang another post in as I think my story on RE harnesses is noteworthy.

I went to back to see the folks at FC and they swapped my medium with a small (many thanks again to them) which technically should not have fit but did.....

This was again a disaster even worse than the medium my back was in a lot of pain after 20 mins. I still was despite the noted problems quite convinced this was the harness for me so brought a large hook bar for the small harness.

The result is a harness that stays mostly in place and most of the time is comfortable I've almost got perfection but not quite.

I also brought a mystic artistic to replace my knackered prolimit (the reason for the RE purchase). Now I favor the RE, it is the best harness I've ever owned but is still not perfect for me my best solution is the chop and change about 2 sessions on the RE to 1 on the mystic. Its all about fit and my 2016 team RE does not fit me perfectly but I do believe the concept is spot on.

I'd love to try the da kine hard shell properly, the bronti and the manera but finding them to try is not so easy!
