Well it's twatting cold again and most of us need to wear gloves. Having brought at least one pair a year for probably about the last 20 years I'd be interested in poling opinion on what people use for kiting and why? Are there any I've not tried which are good?

I've started below with some of my own observations hoping folks will join in / tell me why I've just written a load of tosh:

Ion claw - my personal go to for really cold days, on my third pair work really well but still lack feel and do get a bit of arm pump 8/10

Neilpryde palmless - My go to for warmer days, on my second pair, these last well, give total feel and no arm pump can peel them back as needed smooth skin on the back, if they were warmer they'd be perfect 9/10

ION palmless - Similar to the pryde palmless but not as good owing to the seam around palm being annoying 8/10

Gul delta palmless - they don't seem to make these any more but were as per pryde but didn't last as well 8/10

Mystic 1.5mm merino wool - Just brought some of these, really inflexible even though thinner than the ion claw, do give a bit more feel, not much warmer than palmless though 4/10

Xcel infiniti 1.5mm 5 finger - Really flexible, great feel but not much warmer than palmless also longevity not great both pairs I've had have split at the seams 6/10

Xcel infiniti 5mm 3 finger - Completely inflexible arm pump after about 30 mins max and no feel but warm as toast (9/10 for surfing) but 4/10 for kiting

Marigolds - work quite well with thin fleece glove underneath and duct tape to seal but can quickly chafe, a massive faff and once wet they are crap 3/10

Latex - last about 5 minutes 1/10

Mystic mittens palmless - not tried these but would love to hear an opinion?

Any offering from Atan been tried?

Could add a load more but bored now!

I don't kite much these days if it's below 10 degrees, but I do still race my boat all year round and what with windsurfing, kiting I must have tried bloody everything, used to sell Dakine and we got through a fair number of those open palm mitts back in the day, but I never reckoned them. I did have the perfect solution to kiting on the drawing board just as DK got sold so it never went anywhere, google Pogie, a kite version of one of those is what's needed (A Cover for the bar you put your hands in like Kayakers use).
Then the other day It was bloody Baltic, 2 below and my normal gloves just were not cutting it and I grabbed a pair of builders site gloves I'd picked up for 5.99 from Jewsons last winter and ever tried cos it was pretty mild, not only did they work the grip on them was awesome, and they were toasty..

Worth a look for just over a fiver.

I don't suppose you have a link to show which gloves? Only there are about 40 different types on the website. (http://www.jewson.co.uk/tools-fixings-i ... on/gloves/)

I have had success with some decathlon neoprene cycling gloves (about 1.5-2mm thick) with latex gloves over the top. Lets a little water in which warms nicely but the latex gloves stops the slosh of the cold water and being thin you don't get so much of the forearm cramp from trying to grip. Mind you, it never seems to get as cold on the south coast.

I actually thought the Xcel infiniti 5mm 3 finger were not too bad.
