tiree camping

Shoot the breeze and stay in the loop with the unhinged and unhooked word on the street.

There is only one campsite. Willy from Wild Diamond runs it. Get in touch with him. Pretty decent site from what i remember. Close by to some decent beaches.

Are you bringing a van or caravan? If so there are plenty of official parking places all around the island but you need to pay £10 per night (per van). There is water and a chemical toilet disposal place in Scarinish but if you want a shower then you would have to stay at the campsite. If you are just camping in a tent then you can pretty much camp anywhere under the Scottish laws (but you are supposed to park your car next to the road or in a designated area).

Tiree music festival is on from 19th to 21st July so you might want to avoid those dates as will be very busy. Ferrys already full for the days either side. Ill be at the festival partying and kitesurfing inbetween.

Last time I went in 2008 you could camp in any spot. In the evenings during low wind the tiny midgies were a nightmare.

The rules were...

Don't drive on the Machair (grazing land)

Don't camp near to peoples homes

Clean up after yourself

Amazing place if the wind is blowing. Take plenty of things to entertain you if no wind. Get to the Maze for the waves or Balephetrish/Balevullin. Gott Bay for flatter water. Check out Ceabhar guest house as owners are kitesurfers and divers with plenty of local knowledge.

Are basic groceries such as BBQ meat & beers readily available or is best to bring stuff with us?

There is a co-op on the Island which supplies pretty much all youll need - think others as well but didnt use anything else..

Did you find the co-op over expensive due to it being shipped to the island?

Buy as much as you can on the island, the Co-op is very well stocked, surprisingly-so, and the prices were not noticeably different to the mainland two weeks ago.
